There are some upcoming home building trends that I think are truly exciting. One of the most interesting trends is how homes are being built with sustainability in mind. Modern-day architects and home builders are looking for ways to make today’s residential structures as eco-friendly as possible.
In most cases, that means making the homes as airtight as possible so that there is very little heat transfer between the home and the outside environment. It may also include adding features such as solar or wind power, high-efficiency appliances, sustainable building materials, and reclaimed or repurposed products.
Home sizes are also slowly starting to decline. More and more people are looking for smaller houses rather than gigantic spaces. This is largely due to the fact that they are less expensive to heat and cool and easier to maintain. Builders are responding to this by creating a larger number of modest-sized houses for people to choose from.
Another factor is is damage protection. Products like gutter screens and eco-friendly siding have been big sellers in recent years. These screens basically block leaves and sticks from entering the gutter – overflowing gutters can cause serious water damage.
All in all, I think that these trends are quite encouraging. With the ever-increasing threat of climate change, it is important that we do all that we can to minimize our impact on the environment. One way to do that is by building and purchasing more sustainable homes.
